Pros

The music is so creepy and  this is a movie all about practical effects where it can be done. (charlies head)

There are some really cringe worthy moments the cutting off a dead pigeons head, Charlie's neck breaking in the car and the subsequent screaming from a mother losing her daughter which still rings in my ears long after that part of the movie has come and gone.

The horror stuff is top notch.

The minitures are impressive

Oh and lets not forget the last 20 odd minutes, wow just wow

It is the most dark and dreary horror movie that ive ever seen at the time.

but like all horror movies it is boring in alot of places

2 hours for a horror movie is alot

The pacing is very very slow, you wait for the spooky stuff after an hour and nothing sinister really happens until you see Ants in the bedroom at 1 hour 10.

The family dynamic reminds me too much of certain things i dont care to remember.

Btw anyone whos knows anything in horror knows not to fuck with the supernatural.

Horror movies are always a case of marmite you like them or you dont. i dont mind it but i wouldnt go out of my way to watch it. sure its a great Halloween movie but i wouldnt give up Hellraiser or Evil Dead for it

Plot

So from a movie point of view the movie is about psychologist Dr. Abigail "Abbey" Tyler (Mila Jovovich) who describes a series of events that occurred in Nome, Alaska, and included an alleged alien abduction in October 2000.

 

Pros

Right this is a Pseudo-documentary basically a film done in a documentary style. so right so there is a mixture of film footage and real life footage.

I like the fact that both are sometimes played side by side,

Mila Jovovich isnt her usual roundhouse kick someone in the chin and put a bullet in someone else either here she is vulnerable and shows off a more concerning side of her which ive wanted to see from her for a long time.

Speaking of which At the beginning of the film, Jovovich informs the audience what will transpire & what will happen.

The music is from a horror movie.

It gets you thinking

TBH what makes the movie good is real life footage which is more terrifying then anything out of a human mind?

but the trailer makes it out to be better then it is

The Void 2016

 

plot

After a cop (Aaron Poole) finds someone on the side of the road, he takes him to the local hospital to treat him, unfortunately a group then surround the hospital and they arent alone.

 

Pros

the first 3 minutes involve shooting a woman and setting her on fire. so nicely setting the trend there. its a mixture of different elements so hospital setting (Halloween 2) a massive creature (John Carpenter's The Thing) meets a possessed pregnant mother (Rosemary's Baby) meets people trapped in a building (Dawn of the Dead.) not sure if having so many different elements works but somehow they all manage to make it work.

Pros

ladies and gentlemen, welcome to one of the movies that would shape the movie world for decades to come.

it is brilliant.

Usually cop movies are partners who get along. not Brad Pitt's detective MIlls and Morgan Freeman's Somerset are the exact opposite who somehow make the whole shitty city seem good.

All i need to say is Kevin Spacey's John Doe shouting "DETECTIVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVE" the most spine chilling shouting you'll ever hear in a movie.

The whole unnamed location is always raining and even homes that are meant to be positive are still dull.

The sins themselves are brutal which at the time i dont think anyone had seen outside of Italian horror.

 

Cons

even though this is something i enjoy it might not be everyones cup of tea. bare in mind this is what Saw would end up being based on.

it's bloody, its brutal it's unforgiving and i fucking love it its Absolutely brilliant

Se7ens influence on body horror imagery and influences can be found in the Saw franchise, Along came a spider Bone collector The Batman to name but a few.

If Seven's use of music by Nine Inch Nails isnt mainstream and would be used in franchises such as the first Final Destination and Resident Evil franchise

Se7ens title credit sequence has been labelled as  "one of the most important design innovations of the 1990s" and its style can be seen in the opening credits of films such as Red Dragon and Taking Lives.

This movie is a crossroads in so many peoples career. This put David Fincher on the map after the debacle that was Alien 3. his movies that followed include the game and the movie you dont talk about Fight Club. panic room Zodiac Social network and Gone Girl.

The movie sent Brad Pitt on the road to where his career has been since.

this sent Morgan Freeman in the mentor type role and Kevin Spacey on the psychologically cruel villain map like Kayzer Soyze.

The film's ending has been described as one of the most shocking and unforgettable plot twists in cinematic history & the twist is one of the primary reasons for its success. when he recalled an encounter with a woman who believed she had seen the contents of the box. Fincher believed that leaving the implication to the audience's imagination had been more effective than showing a special effect.

Van Helsing

Plot

Monster Hunter Gabriel Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) a man without a past & works for an organisation that doesnt exist. heads to Transylvania to help siblings Velkan & Anna Valerious (Will Kemp & Kate Beckinsale) kill Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh)

 

Pros

Directed by the same guy who did The Mummy and The Mummy Returns.

soundtrack is brilliant incorporates multiple monsters including Wolfman, Dracula & Frankenstein's monster. this is how the Universal cinematic universe should have used as a template not Tom Cruise's The Mummy.

its heavily CGI based but its fantasy so it can get away with it.

humour is brilliant

Richard Roxburgh's Dracula is underrated as is Hugh Jackman's Gabriel Van Helsing. Kate Beckinsale is ever so reliable.

its alot of fun better then alot you can see nowadays

definitely Dan Stevens's breakout he instantly forget he was in Downtown Abbey. he is fantastic both mesmerising and intimidating, with credit to Maika Monroe as well she doesnt buckle under the pressure of what is essentially Dan Stevens's movie

Adam Wingard & Simon Barrett had just done You're next, so they follow the formula used for that & apply it to the different setting very well

Its low budget, always a strong point for it

Its an homage to 80s movies,

Plot twist well you suspect somethings up but you dont expect it to be that twist. plus there is always more when you think there isnt anything else

Its a cult classic its an action comedy horror masterclass

it can be very dark for some

sometimes you think "Really" at some things

considering what Lance Reddicks character knows what David is capable of he thinks its going to be straight forward which we know it isnt.

Plot

Evy (Nina Kiri) & her friend Justin (Adam DiMarco) host a paranormal podcast where she is the non believer & he is the believer. (Kinda like i would be the believer & my 2 co-hosts would be the non believers.) They as podcast hosts are sent recordings of a couple experiencing paranormal sounds maybe voices in their homes. So this will be fun

 

Pros

It's an A24 movie so quality will be on show & to some degree there is.

Nina Kiri is brilliant as the only face we see who is dealing with alot & she represents the fearless side of the podcast who slowly goes mad, & at the end when she goes fully onto the opposite end of the scale.

Adam DiMarco does a good job considering we only hear him, he anchors the cautious side of the podcast

the atmosphere is just one constant source around every corner of dread, tension & suspense. rattles, the buzzings, the beatings whether it be heartbeats or clock hands add to the dread that the music, that wouldnt be far from used to describe my epilepsy history, has already alluded to

Deja vu happens as per the clips played so at least that's consistant.

And there is a shock about 35 minutes in which adds to the deja vu

The camera work is slow and pans in alot focusing in on what could be in the dark

When you see the how & the why it is quite "oh shit"

The End is really intense & feeds into the motherly parent angle really well.

As far as parenthood, motherhood, fatherhood that is the most scary thing ever, so i'll give credit where credit is due.

As far as podcast side goes, it checks out, massive mic recording on laptop, headphones, yep that's all there

 

Cons

The constant fade to black start getting annoying

The serious slow burn (we're talking worse then getting a prideful woman to apologise) could turn you off it altogether.

do i expect more scares like in Paranormal Activity at least at the end you had a body thrown out of nowhere and then a demon face be the last part of the movie. this is a ending but not a proper one.

Scares arent really that many of?

This is primarily one for the ones who care less about plot and care more about dread scares

There isnt anything really that makes me want to try and catch my breath

Plot

20 years after the mysterious disappearance of ENCOM CEO Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges) his Son Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) who is now the primary shareholder gives away ENCOM's signature operating system on internet. until a visit from his dads friend Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner) once there he is digitised & downloaded into the grid where he must find his father & while being hunted by CLU (Codified Likeness Utility & played by a deaged Bridges.)

 

Pros

Daft Punk's musical score is fantastic

the Disney logo intro mirrors the movie as a whole

Every Jeff Bridges character in this is brilliant whether it be his zen mastered Kevin Flynn or his genocidal ruler Clu.

Garrett Hedlund i like & Olivia Wilde as Quorra an ISO who is still learning.

Michael Sheen is so over the top he is the best thing to look at in this movie

i love the visuals & the effects.

love that the battleground has a 3D way of thinking compared to Tron's 2D

wardrobe is absolutely brilliant

Sometimes the human characters get lost in the games, fights & races

ENCOM & Dillinger systems are in a race to bring digital constructs to life Dillinger succeeds but only for 29 minutes so the race is on to find something called the "permanence code" which will let digital constructs last alot longer then 29 minutes. with Julian Dillinger (Evan Peters) bringing in his master control program Ares (Jared Leto) to guarantee he gets it.

Jared Leto i like as Ares

nice to see Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn once again

i love 9 inch nails soundtrack

love the interaction between the digitally made stuff & human made stuff

the earliest example of CGI & probably the better if im being honest

Jeff Bridges is probably the coolest he's been in this then any other role.

David Warner being David Warner here so even better only theres 2 helpings of him

was revolutionary at the time & is an inspiration

is the beginning of Perlin Noise, a technique used to produce natural appearing textures on computer generated surfaces for motion picture visual effects.

Is a unique vision for a movie

More of a warning about AI then Terminator was

So as one of the biggest John Wick fans there is let me say this, yes its another version of John Wick so what?

Like John Wick it has the kinda action & fight sequences that a John Wick fan would like, btw its very brutal and well thought out. but this is more a man use anything that can be used as a weapon just no horses

and i like the short pauses between fights

Derek Kolstad who has written every live action John Wick movie as well as wrote the script for John Wick Hex the video game, makes it feel familiar but in its own way

Bob Odenkirk leaves Saul Goodman well & truly far behind in the rear mirror view. By turning him into a family man who is the man you turn to when there is no choice. & he effortlessly goes between family man & the man who when you see in the street, walk down the dark alley at night.

Christopher Lloyd isnt in it so much but he makes more then an impact & you feel a certain happiness when he shows junior how killing is done

Supporting cast is full of legends like Michael Ironside, Colin Salmon, Connie Nielsen & RZA, who elevate the product more.Yes it

Ilya Naishuller makes this be unique while still delivering a quality movie he balances everything brilliantly so its not dominated by one thing.

Music is good, one highlight was Heartbreaker by Pat Benatar.

the booby trapped warehouse is a good scene

Yes lets get the biggest elephant in the room out the way yes it takes alot from John Wick but so what

It's not a thinkers movie so if you like to figure things out not for you

i will admit there is alot of stormtrooper shooting in this

Plot

based on the 2016 Ruth Ware novel, while still traumatised from being a witness to a murder. investigative journalist Laura Blacklock or "Lo" (Kiera Knightley) She is invited to a fundraising gala in Norway by invitation of Billionaire Anne Bullmer (Lisa Loven Kongsli) to write about the new charitable foundation that has been set up by her family. However, there are a few inconviences, her ex boyfriend Ben (David Ajala) is there & the gala is on aboard the Bullmer's luxury superyacht going to Norway. So anything can happen.

 

Pros

The cast deliver strong performances from Kiera Knightley to Guy Pearce to Hannah Waddingham to Kaya Scodelario, and a brief cameo from Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

Being at sea definitely brings about the isolation fear there is nowhere to go but plenty for others to go.

And as well brings about the beautiful Norwegian scenery.

Camerawork is quite good

feels like Flightplan in the whole "We havent seen anyone" approach.

 

Cons

It's very slow to deliver on everything compared to Murder on the Orient Express

i will admit it is a novel so there is only so much where the movie can go but compared to other novel adaptations in the same genre its not exactly ground breaking

The problem is it has so promise but in the end the perpetrator is the classic murder suspect not exactly ground breaking

the last act is the least interesting of everything.

Characters are abit predictable

some plot holes, how does one know where her husband is, how does Lo survive Norwegian waters which lets face it aren't exactly warm, thats a taster

But for alot of the characters we are expected to go on in the story without a clue as to why everyone is doing it why is the crew, why is he why is she?

The Planet is Somaris, the time is 65 million years ago, Mills (Adam Driver) is going on a space expedition for a personal reason whoever on said expedition his ship the Zoic is hit by an asteroid storm & as a result he crashlands on Earth. which at the time is populated by Dinosaurs, everyone else hasnt survived (think Alien3.) everything seems hopeless until he finds Koa (Ariana Greenblatt) the many problems are, they dont speak the same language & he has crashlanded on earth 65 million years ago so guess whos looking for dinner?

 

Pros

the only reason this movie works even slightly on any scale is because of

Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt they're chemistry & performances with very little dialogue & more about the actions they perform is the selling point i would go with

the visual effects are fairly decent

the dinos if you compare them to say other dino movies have more texture in their skin & seem more aggressive

Wardrobe looks the part

I like the tech

 

Cons

However the thing is it has a runtime minus credits of about 88 minutes, which feels abit short for a movie of this genre.

Everything feels forced and rush

Everything couldve been expanded on, we never get to find out how Kol ended up where she is

It's not the most original movie there is

Terra Nova proved that this kinda of thing can be good unfortunately someone missed that series & that memo

I found myself struggling to keeping myself engaged with the movie just pacing is so bad & it gets boring

that species is highly advanced but yet why does it feel like that has been forgotten.

Only way they get to him is recruit his favourite Danny Francesco (Josh Hartnett) well when i say recruit it's more like blackmail.

 

Pros

Jason is his usual self, action man,

Aubrey Plaza delivers some of the comedy she is known for but it is a nice change of pace for her playing a hacker/spy

Cary Elwes delivers his usual english charm wit & humour which he repeats in Ministry of ungentlemenly warfare so i know its a winner

Hugh Grant is just brilliant as his stint in the gentlemen has proven he can be more then just a romantic slob

I like Josh Hartnett in this i just figured he's playing another version of Josh Hartnett

action is good, well choreographed fights & Statham is in it so you know what you're getting

it's not a thinking persons movie

locations are fantastic, wardrobe isnt bad either

im probably the easiest when it comes to being happy with a movie & i was very happy with it despite the flaws

 

Cons

In fairness it is straight forward persue this guy hijack this go undercover there isnt exactly anything that separates it from the best ones in the genre.

i enjoy the banter others might not

A few of the scenes feel awkward

It's not on the level of Lock Stock, Snatch or anything of his early work.

There might be a feeling that some think Guy has lost his way, me personally i will know that when i cant watch it.

Plot

Many years after the events of No Way Home, Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Tom Holland) has chosen to abandon Peter Parker & become Spiderman full time. In that time he's a hero, has the key to the city, establishes a working relationship with NYPD detective Jean DeWolff (Liza Colón-Zayas) defeats villains not limited to The Hand ninjas, Tombstone (Marvin Jones III) & Scorpion (Michael Mando.) while avoiding MJ (Zendaya) & Ned (Jacob Batalon) however he is about to tested when the Department of Damage Control (DODC) is under attack by Jean Grey (Sadie Sink) while Spidey must also deal with Frank Castle aka The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) & a mutation problem he has.

 

Pros

So high school is officially over, may the adult Peter Parker & darker Peter Parker please stand up, i love Tom Holland in this, not the kid anymore, he's on his own, he's had to adapt to having noone to talk to, noone to advise & Tom is just brilliant showcasing Peter's suffering & anger all in one package.

Sadie Sink, the woman who i came to love as Max in Stranger Things cause she is an actress who makes you feel her pain, which is exactly what she does here, i will admit her as a villain is a nice change of pace for her & works especially as Jean as every marvel fan knows is the Dark Phoenix in the comics. But she plays to Jean's strengths & when she explodes in anger when she realises what V-Max is i genuinely felt alittle scared.

Not to mention the chemistry Tom & Sadie have is electric.

Jon Bernthal is slightly handicapped as The Punisher is Rated R however it is nice to see him as abit more funny but they still keep the main character but adapt it.

Having 2 heros at opposite ends of the hero scale is a great way & their comedy is brilliant its like Marvels idea of Bad Boys.

Bill Metzger's Tramell Tillman is cold as ice which almost gives him away But he is one dimensional

This movie has more character development then ive seen in the last month of reviewing movies.

I have one word to describe Destin Daniel Cretton's direction Sublime. everything fits & everything works.

Fights are brilliant apparently Jackie Chan's stunt team was involved

Nice cameos from Mark Ruffalos' Hulk & Florence Pugh's Yelena.

That spa scene you can tell he is still shy while she isnt & it's just funny to watch

I loved the Black eyes when the arachnid side takes over (even though im sure it was took and adapted from Supernatural.)

It sets up many MCU future projects, Avengers, X-Men, Spidey sequels.

I hate the fact that this is the 4th Tom Holland movie and there is no villain with motive towards him.

Far From Home's villain is Mysterio with motive also towards Tony Stark

No Way Home's villains is all of Garfield's & Maguire's adversaries so no motive towards him.

Brand New Day's Villains is Jean Grey (X-Men) & the DODC (set up by Tony Stark.)

So for future use can we please have Ned become Hobgoblin?

Thought Scorpion & Tombstone would have more screentime

Zendaya & Ned couldve been in less. Ned at very end & MJ when Peter's arachnid side is too strong so he seeks out MJ.

There is too many characters trying to cram into this movie.

The constant Jean body hopping is annoying & a classic case of overplaying your abilities. Jean has many more abilities why not use them.

It isnt perfect, but it's an absolutely brilliant start to the second Spiderman trilogy, but much needs to be done so please please Marvel, dont fuck this up.

Which Kara does Decline but then agrees after he steals her ship & poisons Krypto. So i guess the shit is about to hit the preverbal Kryptonian fan.

Milly Alcock is very good as Kara Zor-el, a daughter of Krypton left devastated by the destruction of her home so she drinks & drinks and different cause she doesnt have her cousins moral code. as is evident at the end.

IM going to say 4 words that sum one character up. "Jason Mamoa is Lobo" i will leave it at that. But fuck me he is Lobo.

The destruction of Krypton is show in highlights thankfully as well as Argo surviving Kryptons destruction. which opens the door for a certain DC character to be in Man of tomorrow released in 2027. as well as a certain something that is one of the man of steel's weaknesses.

And also the Kryptonian language which as far as im aware we've never had in any DC live action movie (not seen Krypton so cannot comment on that series.)

Music is decent, Halsey, Liminanas, & Ella Fitzgerard, just to name a few

Action is probably better then it is in Superman only because of Lobo mind you

Ruthe is so annoying, she has no character development i mean whatever to abit of clarity where she is asked "is this what your parents wouldve wanted" & her line she repeats it's like the opposite end of the scale of "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die."

Ruthe & Kara have the same chemistry as 2 siblings who hate each other to the point where they will get physical. it feels so awkward

As a man who has many seen Lex Luthors, Brainiacs, Metallo's Overgirls, Deadshots, Deathstrokes, Jokers etc in his lifetime. Matthias Schoenaerts is by far the weakest portrayal of any villain in any DC project ive seen. He sounds and looks like a really bad Mads MIkkelson

Lobo's small time in the movie is what the movie will be known for (in fairness when i heard Lobo was in this, i was like "I dont care if its shit, Im going for Lobo")

It's got Yoyo pacing sometimes with the action it can be good but then between the action it can be slowed down to beyond a crawl.

the Krypton flashbacks i was expecting to hit me like it did in Man of Steel but it didnt so there goes your emotional side

Kara doesnt really act that drunk. I've known cricketeers get more drunk on one night out on the town then she does on a planet crawl.

I know its based on Woman of Tomorrow but Ruthe feels like she's the protagonist and its not even her own movie.

Having David Corenswet in the movie feels like a cry for help rather then any faith in the movie itself.

Pros

Neve Campbell has a certain likeness about her as she is now the parent having to deal with what happened to her with her daughter.

Isabel May is a great choice to play her daughter.

I did enjoy Michelle Randolph's cameo at the beginning like Samara Weaving before her but do they have to be blondes all the time. why not a brunette or in Alan Fang's case Gingers, he'd pay good money to see that on a repeated basis.

The only good thing about the movie is the horror aspect.

The blood and gore is great, i love gravity taking intestines splat onto the floor

the creativity in the kills is pretty good the main example being McKenna Grace swinging around while Ghostface takes a piece of her with every swing.

the tension is at the usual unbearable

i like the Prologue

Right the prologue i like, but the teenager sneaking in the window & The town going into curfew with the "Red Right hand" song  whereas it maybe a tribute, i feel it's a lack of imagination on Kevin Williamson's part as well as a lack of originality on the man who is supposed to be one of the kings of horror. this is the worst and most disappointing aspect of the film.

Im not a doctor but i thought having a tv dropped on your head would leave you abit more disfigured then what Stu actually appears to be.

So many plotholes like why wasnt Tatum trained with a gun as you know her dad is a cop and her mum is Sidney Prescott you'd think theyd give her some training. theres so many shitty decisions, like "i know instead of running towards my kid i'll just talk her through everything when she should be on running until she cant run anymore"

exactly what is the point of having new characters if they are the equivalent of NPCs? we dont see them enough to care.

the villains of the piece have a really shitty motive & lack a certain something.

pacing is way worse compared to the original.

It just feels like they looked at the pervious entries and said "Lets make this the worst of the franchise."

If i wanted to see a shittier unoriginal version of the Original Scream i would recommend this to anyone. btw i said on podcast i would not watch this and me watching it on Paramount+ has justified my 80% dislike of it cause the franchise is now haemorrhaging & it will only get worse. So i suggest no more while there is abit of dignity still left in this franchise.

A week shy of the 1 year anniversary of his death, Becky, (now a youtuber) has given up climbing and is drinking herself into suicide completely driving her dad James (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) away. 1 week away from Dan's Anniversary

Dan's death, Shiloh invites Becky to climb the soon to be demolished 2,000-foot B-67 TV Tower in the desert. Shiloh suggests she scatter Dan's ashes from the top as a form of healing. A reluctant Becky accepts, hoping to finally move on from Dan's death. yeah about that one ladies.

 

Pros

Both Murray & Gardner play their roles brilliantly,

And the character development of them is better then so many in movies ive seen recently from the first scene Hunter has gone from being just a climber to a fearless youtubing Adrenaline junkie while Becky is a traumatised fearful depressed almost a rookie who's fear actually is her gut telling her she shouldn't go higher and higher and its both ends of a scale which gives the audience a uniue vantage point.

I do agree with the reason why Becky went up that tower to release her husbands ashes. which is what people do scatter ashes in places

The B-67 tower is based on the actual KXTV/KOVR Tower in California, which is near enough the same height. with the actual top of the tower built on a mountain peak in the Mojave Desert. which is just genius creativity

As a guy who does mind heights but would never go up a 2000 foot tower, the higher they went up the more my anxiety and fear went upas well as   which is what this movie is supposed to do, use height as a fear you cant control and really have no way out of.

the shaking or removal of nuts and bolts as well as rust of the tower as they go up leads you to know this isnt going to go well, big shoutout to Miguel "MacGregor" Olaso that camerawork and placement is just sublime.

The Plot twists are brilliant

there is just constant suspense which feels never ending

the constant need for survival keep you glued to the screen and dont divert your attention.

I hate CGI in movies but the fear draws out that flaw and makes it not something to care about im assuming the crew took surrounding environment shots just to make sure it was executed greatly

Im no climber although i have done abseiling twice im sure alot of the climbing and im sure there is alot of climbing stuff that just defy the laws of physics

im sure there are climbers who when they plan and then execute their climbs what they are climbing have all the necessary rope, tools, clothing, survival kits etc they need. not come with less the bare minimum.

there are some plot holes like why would you waste battery life when youre trying & hoping to be rescued, Instead of a note you could've flown a phone down with the drone, the affair is mentioned then forgot about why would you climb up a 2000 foot tower with only that much rope surely youd take the same amount of rope as the tower length but keep it at certain levels you get the idea. didnt tell anyone where they were

some decisions are really questionable

The usual "it'll be fine" get really annoying as does the usual positive reinforcement.

they build the whole rescue up then we just go straight to the reunion instead of when she is rescued

Writing is basic but not groundbreaking which i feel contributes to alot of the plot holes. so a conversation was had where they went "RIght so what can we do to make this look decent not brilliant"

For over 3 centuries the Owens family (full of women i might add) have been cursed to never fall in love with any man, if they do the man dies. with that said Sally Owens (Sandra Bullock) has become a widow after her husband dies because of the curse & her sister Gillian "Gilly" Owens (Nicole Kidman) is the complete opposite of her sister but also in a lets say not great relationship with James "Jimmy" Angelov (Goran Visnjic.)

 

Pros

The minute you have Sandra Bullock in a movie, (well maybe not Speed 2) iam there, one of the most reliable actresses there is, she anchors the movie brilliantly while taking us through the emotions and the parenthood.

Love Nicole Kidman as an actress but she varies between free spirited annoyance & possessed menace.

I love both Dianne West & Stockard Channing in this, the fun aunts the witchy aunts and the "im too old for this shit" aunts.

It goes to some really dark places but somehow it makes it more manageable then i thought it would be

Aiden Quinn is the detective/ love interest who is a nice addition who has more to him then meets the eye.

The Owens actresses have superb chemistry between them & i love the exploration of family on different levels.

Soundtrack is brilliant Faith Hill (Forgot how great she actually is), Stevie Nicks, Marvin Gaye, Elvis Presley & Bran Van 3000 (thats a name i havent heard in decades.)

Love Alan Silvestri's score

The witchcraft is the star of the show

This when i watched it feels like a preview of Charmed a year later. Witchy sisters having to fight off the boyfriend of one of them who seeks to kill them. (Sounds like Something this Wicca way comes)

The ending is very charmed like i believe.

there is so many illogical actions in this if i scratched my head every time someone made a stupid decision, you'd see the inner layer of my skull by the time the movie was finished

youd think there would be some evolution of the characters but no they are all the same & they dont change making noone care whether they live or die. the only person i wanted to at mostly survive is Kathryn Howard's Sara as long as she gets away from Max.

the movie is boring in so many ways the slow pacing the waiting and waiting without anything happening.

80s Bond movies have better underwater sequences then this.

It's from Debra Hill & written by John Landis so as far as iam concerned it wont be shit

Tim Curry is briliant his delivery of his lines is brillaint as well as his timing and even his crying.

the cast is perfect, the group chemistry is remarkable.

The comedy is brilliant. where Tim Curry pushes a bookcase into Mr Green, the time where in talking a guys balls are cut of the guys cross their legs at the same time where Tim is shouting and is knocked out with the candlestick. The group whispering while make the decision

the fast paced dialogue is brilliant.

The kill setup is very Friday 13th & it works

it keeps the game lore in there, the names, the weapons for the game, a candlestick, rope, lead pipe, wrench, revolver, and dagger. the no idea of who has done it. So wild accusations go all across the board (figuratively not literally)

the music is your typical 80s music full of mystery, relief and shock.

There is curveball after curveball so youre constantly kept guessing whos doing the killing.

The Lightning is typical 1980s lightning strikes which sounds alot better then it does nowadays

sets are phenomenal

i personally love the multiple endings

it's really rewatchable & its something you can have on in the background if you really want to

And also most importantly a cult classic

the comedy is great, the timing is brilliant and the comedic chemistry between the leads just works

it maybe a movie 46 years old but the premise is still relatable today as it was in 1980.

The movie's soundtrack is brilliant while 9-5 by Dolly is one of the all time great songs.

There is a nice evolution for all the leading ladies

Meanwhile 6 months after the Old Guard banished Booker after his betrayal, the old guard Joe (Marwan Kenzari), Nicky (Luca Marinelli), Nile (KiKi Layne) & their leader Andromache or Andy (Charlize Theron) as well as the Oracle esque James Copley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who are in split to retrieve a weapons cache. while Nile is having dreams about someone in a library. meanwhile Booker ((Matthias Schoenaerts), is kidnapped and Andy goes to see Tuah (Henry Golding) to find out what is going on?

As usual the cast deliver particularly Charlize Theron

fight choreography is good as per usual

more lore which adds more dimensions to it

i did like the addition of Henry Golding's Tuah talks sense and also makes you fully aware with how he speaks just how worried he is & how it should be taken seriously

its more personal then the first and also the first where Andy is on the backfoot as she is now mortal.

This is to the Old guard what Infinity war was to Endgame just the setup

but at least Infinity War had more then enough to make everyone go watch it, this in no way does

alot of it makes no sense for instance Quynh hates Andy but i definitely wouldnt forgive that easy if i was imprisoned for 500 years.

Chiwetel Ejiofor whereas not his usual villainous self (Serenity for instance) but i like the reasoning for all of humanity and then realising the errors of his ways

Merricks demise is so good definitely what id do if i was immortal and healed

The history lesson Copley gives us adds depth and history to the movie and the franchise if it decided to go there.

Plot

Five years following the events of Code 8, LCPD has brought in Non lethal K9 style robots instead of Guardians led by Sergeant "King" Kingston (Alex Mallari Jr.) to which the streets are safer.

Garrett (Stephen Amell) has become a Mama style drug kingpin of the Towers apartment complex where he runs his Psyke empire (Psyke is a drug made from the spinal fluid of powered individuals.

Connor (Robbie Amell) has just got out of prison and is a janitor at a local community centre unfortunately all 3 collide when a pay off between Garrett & King is interrupted by Tarak (Sammy Azero) who steals the money and is killed by a K9 unit. one problem his little sister Pavini (Sirena Gulamgaus) is a witness and can kill a K9 unit that is supposedly "unkillable"

the switch from heist to 3 people against a corrupt system is a good one

its an Indiegogo funded movie which you wouldnt think

The Amells are reliable Robbies Connor is on his own and he shows the character well and Stephen goes all Lena Headey in his Kingpin style role

its a nice change of pace as its more between 4 central characters all from a unique standpoint cop, kingpin, loner, sister caught between the first 2.

The K9s definitely are well ideaed through mulitple tools for a variety of purposes subdue, forced entry you get the idea. plus they look menacing and that red eye they have almost reminding me of the machine that disconnects Neo from his pod in the Matrix.

there is alot more tension particulary in the Tarak K9 chase

There is more powers showcased Camouflage, Exoderma, Memory Wiper & Transducer (which is probably the game

As is the abilities are more shown for more tactical purposes (Tarak has a Camouflage style power which he uses to hide from the K9)

Well lets start with Amell cousins. Stephen is giving off criminal Oliver Queen vibes while Robbie is showing that he is worth his weight in leading gold. both bring a certain uniqueness

to say its low budget or as low budget as you can get the effects are impressive as is the technical expect

its nice to see there is different types of supes (electric, pyro, cryo, healer are a few examples.)

Story is decent, those who have powers dont to get be as fortunate as they hope & normal people facing an uphill struggle which is a fresh perspective instead of a Marvel movie

Love her or hate her Megan Fox absolutely nails this role, you do feel alot of regret for her character the past she had to endure, the present where she's handcuffed to a corpse. She makes it all believable.

Callan Mulvey having played KGBeast in Batman vs Superman flexes the full might of his antagonist,

the suspense & tension is probably the best or worst ive seen recently

the direction is decent

the camera work and angles are decent

there is plenty of shocks twists and "have they found her"

the horror element is great, brain splatter, dragging a corpse just great

the first part of Mike & Marcus's parts in the movie is hilarious & not to mention someone gets shot in the ass.

Martin Lawrence & Will Smith make this movie, their performances and banter just make the movie so memorable which is what i love about it.

Action is great

the chases are brilliant especially the Porsche 911 turbo taking on the AC Cobra

the basketball scene with Capt Howard is great & funny.

Tcheky Karyo's Fuchet for me at the time is one of the most unforgiving villains i know, there is a fuck up he will make you pay for it.

the dialogue and script is brilliant

The prologue is what makes or breaks the movie. & it makes it better then a Tilly Ramsey insult about her dad.

i rewatched it last month after more then a few years since i last watched it & it is even better then i remembered.

This is probably Chris Hemsworth's best role to date, he looks the part, the PTSD & emotional damage is the part got the tattoos for the part. just great

Rudhraksh Jaiswal is brilliant as Ovi Jr, the kids who does everything but the thing he should do & at the end hammers the emotional factor home

the fights are well choreographed

the camera work is world class given the fast action sequences

the movie is constantly engaging the audience at a fast pace

i love the single take sequence

with the guns there is either 1 tap or 2 taps of the trigger. anything that has more then 2 bullets fired in any one sequence in a movie hasnt been trained properly

the killing of anyone who gets in Tyler's way is unmerciful and painful what we expect

Morgan lives with her husband Chris (Scott Eastwood) who have raised their daughter Clara (McKenna Grace) together. Clara meanwhile starts to develop feelings for Miller Adams (Mason Thames.) Then disaster strikes both Jenny & Chris perish in a car crash, so you have the other halfs coming to terms with their losses and the grief and the daughter who processes her grief differently & is about to go to war (as most kids do) with her mum.

 

Pros

McKenna Grace has been in so many franchises and movies at a very young age and its not hard to see why, she is so talented & and can hold a movie despite the rest of the talent in the movie having the filmographies they do.

Mason Thames is the future and he is so great in this.

both of them have a genuine chemistry that cannot be ignored no matter how bad the movie is

Dave Franco & Alyson Williams play their roles brilliantly.

I will also say it is nice to see Clancy Brown playing someone a little different.

the flirting is good which thanks to McKenna brings out the reaction you expect

Anyone who has lost a loved one & a family member will know & relate to the pain of the characters

There is some great comedy moments in it. the get in the car and cant actually open her door.

Based on the Manga of the same name, 30 years after a Nuclear blast devasted Tokyo & Japan and started World War 3. Tokyo has become a dystopian version of itself, beautiful to look at but is ugly everywhere you turn. After the capsules motorbike gang led by Shotaro Kenada (Mitsuo Iwata) fight the rival gang the Clowns. Kaneda's best friend Tetsuo Shima (Nozomu Sasaki) crashes his bike into Takashi (Tatsuhiko Nakamura) who has developed Psonic abilities. which unfortunately causes Tetsuo to develop similar abilities to Akira who had the same power 30 years ago. guess how that went

 

Pros

Im not the biggest Anime fan or follower so i want that to be known but i absolutely love this movie

The animation blew me away,

Looking at it is just a feast for the eyes

the motorbike chase at the beginning ending with the Akira slide is great

the music that is a combination of Halloween & T2 esque insert music parts i think just makes it larger then life as well as the physic battles music as well which is quite tense

the characters make the music even bigger then it should be

i have seen the original Japanese dub and it is very funny in parts and very serious in others.

the script is brilliant the dialogue is even better.

I can see where the Akira influence is in Chronicle for example

the entire movie is done so well to the point that it still holds up well today if not better then alot of releases.

look to the legacy section for how much of a cultural influence it has had.

i only knew about this from the Bike Slide, and honestly i fell in love with beauty of Anime from Spirited Away, but now i have fallen in love with this movie & the legacy it created cannot be denied. it is Nolan Film Registry worthy and with good reason. It is a fucking epic legendary movie.

The next day as they go to Italy Zach is threatened by Julia for hush money which he ignores. The next day they go hot air ballooning but find they have a passenger in Julia. and you can imagine where it goes from there.

The views of the Dolomite mountains are beautiful as well as the weather effects.

The suspense is brutal whether it be by mother nature or human

Whereas the characters motive i see the logic for i dont see the logic in sending her thousands of feet up the air to blackmail someone & then sending a balloon into space cause she isnt getting her own way. So if he caved and paid how would she enjoy it when she cant breath.

there is alot more like when he denies everything he's accused of why would he leave a video in the deleted section.

The physics of a hot air balloon i have no idea about but it feels like its more dramatic then it should be.

it is so boring until mother nature takes over but by then its too late all the engagement you had has been lost.

MEW absolutely has the opportunity to show how good she is she can be & show that she can be more then just a sidekick (Yes Star Wars and DCEU im looking at you.) she makes the movie hers while also raising her stake in the action heroine business. as well as the investment of "will she do everything before she passes?

Ok lets get the 1980s shit out of the way, the plot is the same as the revenge from John Wick mixed in with the adrenaline and trying to keep the main character alive by any means possible from Crank. There is more like Collateral. Right i see the comparison but so what. in the 1980s horror was just the same we hated alot fo them but there were some we loved this is one of them

I've only seen Jason Narby as Skull in Power Rangers so he is completely against what ive known him as for years but he's definitely good in it & yes Bulk himself Paul Schrier aka Bulk is here too.

Johnny Young Bosch (Or JYB for short) edited, directed, produced starred, cinematography & composed the music for the movie. i dont know how he managed to juggle those departments and deliver quality on all those fronts but he did. i will also add that im going to assume that is his voice as well as he is a voice actor.

Nobuaki Shimamoto give him his due he plans his villain hand very well his character is terrifying

I wonder if JYB had watched the Raid cause i get a big vibe of it in this, low budget, martial arts with brilliant fight choreography.

Im not a great fan of VFX gunshots but they are decent

There isnt much in the form of comedy but when there is some its welcome.

The ending is where the emotion is and shoutout to Narvy for making us feel something & to Maya Brattkus for pouring all her feelings into it

There is a twist at the end which when you think about movies like Sweet girl makes sense

Another with Lena Headey. 1 with Jude Law & Tye Sheridan. 1 had Jeremy Irvine & Olga Kurylenko & Kate with Mary Elizabeth Winstead is the best followed by this. i wont say its a gem but it says something when i prefer this then something with actors of the quality of Gibson, Hauser, Headey, Law, Sheridan, Irvine or Krylenko. watch it if you can

honestly i havent watched this in sometime but i forgot how great & funny it is

Samara Weaving is so brilliant as the the bride who is about to die on her wedding night but somehow survives a plan no plans & family fighting

the rest of the cast are just brilliant Henry Czerny blends storytime with the anger version of severe panic attacks, Andie McDowell is the "cool heads prevail" Adam Brody is the condescending asshole who you just love. Melanie Scrofano is the one who is high & forgets she has a trigger to kill everyones favourite help. Nicky Guadagni is the aunt who gives meaning to the phrase "stare of death."

So the comedy is there like when Grace comes out of a door & there are 3 family members carrying a death body just starring at her, Emilie killing the help is funny, Henry just overracting is funny,

the finale is a mixture of horror & just comedy at the part of it happening i think its just the shock of each combustible elements that make it so funny.

its beautifully done

there isnt a moment where you feel bored cause there is always soemthing going on that you need to watch which sets it apart from most horror

the writing & dialogue is just great not once did i want someone to crossbow me in the face cause it was that bad

music is brilliant even down to the Ready or not overture which i would have on my playlist if i could.

I love Max Martini, he's usually the saner one but here he is completely unhinged it suits him.

Pros

before i say anything, i would just like to point out how brilliant Natalie Grace as Katie Cannon & Billie Roy who played Maud Cannon are in this. Natalie plays Katie with so much terror & dread i was amazed that i wasnt freaked out & Billie who plays Maud is one of those child actresses who knows how to play the good lovely girl so that when she goes full psycho you are horrified by how much she changes. So kudos to those 2.

i do like Jack Reynor & Laia Costa as mum & dad cause the whole movie is about parenthood the good the bad & the downright worse things that could happen. And they play into that brilliant.

I do like how this Mummy is different or at least i think it to previous movies. & using the innocence of a child for this mummy is brilliant

The usual horror elements the suspense, then dread,

the body horror is tolerable not like The Substance's so good you'll never watch it again.

the grimness of Egypt & Albuquerque fit into the movie nicely.

the practical effects & the fake blood & the body parts all brilliant

It's brutal and shows no mercy for its brutality.

the ending is a nice touch add the fact that we dont see what happens makes it better.

Sonic The Hedgehog 3

Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Knuckles (Idris Elba,) and Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey.) are thrown in the deep end when Guardian Units of Nations (G.U.N.) The addition of Keanu Reeves's Shadow as a mirror opposite of Sonic brings a whole new level of engagement & emotion into it. which Keanu mirrors perfectly as he did his homework with the character & the perfect example of Art imitates life (look it up)

Jim Carrey has more laughs as the Eggman who has given up in gone into a D-Egg-ression. I know but hey thats how the franchise writing has gone. But the levels of energy & humour remain as great as the other entries in the franchise. as is his version of Grandad robotnik its amazing just how 2 Jim Carreys are in the same movie when done correctly.

The "Stobotnik" relationship is definitely even better then the last time cause Stone has more of a role then fanboying over Eggman & having to contend with 2 of them

The movie is alot darker then previous entries cause of Shadow which means it's a nice change for the franchise.

the action is the best of the trilogy.

like the others it gives Sonic fans an faithful adaptation

The 4th wall break with both robotniks is pure humour as is they repeat each others line in perfection so i wonder how many times jim had to repeat

Well that's before the intervention of one hedgehog called Sonic (Ben Schwartz) & his new ally Tails (Colleen O'Shaughnessey.)

the cast are better then in the first

Despite the fact that James Marsden & Tika Sumpter arent in it that much they still set the scene nicely at the beginning & still help evolve the ending from where the middle was.

Jim Carrey is even better in this then he is in the first. i just laugh with his delivery & the movements to go with it.

Idris Elba's Knuckles is the party pooper of the movie but Idris Voices him brilliantly with a character similar to Drax from Guardians of the galaxy.

Having Colleen O'Shaughnessey voice Tails brings abit of game nostalgia into the movie & shows that Jeff Fowler still cares about the franchise like he did when they redid Sonic's apperance after the backlash over his looks

The "Stobotnik" relationship is even better more so of Stone's relief to get Robotnik back and Stone even develops abit of mean streak towards tails.

Glen Powell is just so fucking goddamn good in this. He's emotional, tough, intense,  showing why he could lead franchises in the future not that he cant now.

Josh Brolin as Damon Killian is one of those antagonists where you just want to punch in the face & you know he's lying but he's so good you never can tell he is actually lying.

i like how there is 2 separate entities here you have the game show host & the one pulling the strings behind the scenes. not like 87's where there was only one.

it's more brutal & gorey then the original.

the cast from NYSM2 are back and thank god Isla is back. Isla i missed you so much :)

so all the cast are good and business as normal so nothing new to report there

having 3 new members with 2 additional skills adds an extra dimension to the plot

i enjoy some of the banter

i still got surprised at the end reveal

alot is explained as to why Henley went away & Shrike isnt with the team.

the whole 4 horseman show at the beginning isnt bad

Shrike hands them their next target corrupt CEO Owen Case (Ben Lamb) but at the start Shrike is outed as a mole in the FBI & Jack's death is announced as being fake. So the hunt is back on both for the horseman & the ones who want them.

much like the original the leads are nailed in perfectly & Caplan walks into the role like she belongs and brings an extra dimension to the team as you know a limb expert of sorts

After playing the goofball agent in the first, we see Ruffalo come into his own as Dylan the handler of the Horseman

Michael Caine turns full heel in this

Woody does double duty as Merritt & Chase who are as different as chalk and cheese

this movie takes it out of the US & to Macau as well as London so new places to go

The story is better as the horseman and Shrike are split up not having everything go smoothly.

the tricks are done by both sides so it's not one sided & bigger tricks harder to accomplish

It's throughly entertaining throughout

we have the whole Batinthesun debate about science vs magic

the finale is bigger then the previous movies with added peril.

Speaking of which, there is nonstop peril more so from the antagonists who want to put them in their graves.

the twists are better like the end one and the one at greenwich observatory.

The whole Macau Science Center sleight of hand with a computer chip card sequence is while larger and impressive it is still helped by effects which detracts from how complex it is and how difficult it is

Why would you have a computer chip shaped like a card it's a chip

not quite sure everything in that movie is not that easy to do

again you want a great story you need to vnaish this movie away

Pros

Each lead just shines in their role and the chemistry they have is like 3 brothers & a sister and it is just do good and funny too plus their chemistry is brilliant.

Mark Ruffalo plays your typical nonbeliever who does everything a nonbeliever would do and it just makes it so much better

And Melanie Laurent is also very good as Interpol agent Alma Dray who plays the interpol agent who may or may not know many things.

Morgan Freeman is brilliant as Thaddeus Bradley once a magician himself who finds himself caught in the middle of the FBI & the horseman.

its a story about magicians so expect nothing to make sense at first but fortunately for those who are dumbstruck Morgan isnt far behind with an explanation

the movie is laid out perfectly with trick after trick & twist after twist and it is done so brilliantly & flawlessly

very engaging and there is always something going on.

it's one of those movies where you have to be on the ball otherwise you miss whats going on

I will admit i laughed alot on this mainly at Merritt

No character development after the opening titles each character is there for a reason and nothing changes or my favourite expression "No evolution"

plot holes aplenty like where is MIchael Caine when New york is happening,

i'll get straight to it the Martial arts are brilliant but not as brilliant as the raid.

very well choreographed every hit is made to feel like a knockout hit or something

like the raid its low budget which means no CGI which means authenticity :)

I can see why Tony Jaa has the reputation he has, in this he dominates & makes a fight his own without having to be compared to anyone & actually has an emotional angle to im as well which is unique.

the executions remind me of Ray Sahetapy's introduction in the Raid. god i miss him as a villain

The dub isnt great if im honest just needs to be in either chinese or english not both.

In a dystopian future. Boy is left for dead but is mute & deaf. the Shaman (voiced by Francois Chau & played by Yayan Ruhian) trains boy heals him & trains him for the day he exacts his revenge.

 

Pros

Bill Skarsgard is one of those actors where he has many strengths no weaknesses. Make him a horror villain he'll make it his own, give him an action movie he'll tear the movie (House) down. he is brilliant even better cause he cant speak in the movie at all. And who knew he has those type of muscles.

I have known of Jessica Rothe since Happy Death Day but i think she missed her calling as an action star. thoroughly entertaining and she delivers an solid & later emotional performance

the entire family is a mixture of aggressive, cowardly, psychotic. the movie just described my entire family. so yeah thats accurate

the action is very good, with Skarsgard looking like he's been doing it all of his life

There is so much blood oh to be reminded of the Raid 🙂

the intense fights & the choreography are impressive

 

i love the endless volence

And btw the fact that they got Yayan Ruhian impresses me most as he is one of my favourite martial artists and the fact that Bill & Jessica will have had to train harder then they usually do as he is quick do not let his age decieve you he's still quick with his hands and feet.

the last fight between June 27 & Boy vs Shaman i got Raid flashbacks i even got the tense music when Yayan was in his finish him stage.

There is the matter of the script is really bad

the 2 narrations of H Jon Benjamin's Boy & François Chau's Shaman for me are bad. you couldve had one of Bill's brothers do the voice for him & just let Yayan speak his native tongue

alot of the Van der Koy's feel like they arent trying.

Andrew Koji's character baffles me

there's meant to be dark humour in it some is ok the rest is just "Nah"

this does feel like another version of The Hunger Games or anything like it in the that genre

The year is 2032, Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up from his induced coma with no idea what, why, who or where he is. He does find out he is on the Hail Mary, a spacecraft on its way to the Tau Ceti system which is 11.9 light years from earth. turns out the Tau Ceti system is the only system where its sun isnt dying & Grace is there to find out why that is so.

 

Pros

Ryan Gosling is absolutely nails everything you would expect as he is just the only one we really see everyone else is in flashbacks and he anchors the movie brilliantly with humour, emotion everything.

Rocky is just one of those characters that grows on you or annoys you. for me its grows i was kinda sad when he & Rocky went their separate ways

Rocky although unique in design is brought brilliantly to life

Everything about this movie is not perfect but whatever is below perfect cause its just brillaint in everything manner from direction to writing to cinematography to effects. it's just brilliant

as a sci-fi fan i didnt find any scientific talk to hard to comprehend.

Fresh out of jail Asia Reeves (Zazie Beetz) gets a job as a housemaid at a high rise building in New York City. while there she is attacked and manage to hold the attackers off but unfortunately that isnt the end of her job from hell.

Zazie Beets is brilliant for this movie, she anchors the movie while going between psychotic woman & absolutely dumbfounded protagonist

everyone else is just cannon fodder so not much there

The change of lighting the noises the shadowy figure in the distance are brilliant

the music is brilliant the Halloween style music & the soundtrack in it is definitely

there is alot of fake blood which as an Evil Dead fan & horror purist i f**king love

the amount of killing well kinda killing is not brilliant and sometimes even over the top but tis brilliant.

the twists are explained easily enough & in flashback which doesnt defer from the pacing

the antagonists are abit stupid even with immortality. "we need her alive" after trying to stab her with a machete & shoot her with a double barrelled shotgun.

There are parts where it feels abit too much like Ready or Not. Not the sequel the original as i have seen Ready or Not 2 at the time of this review.

I love Camila Mendes, she has a certain likeability (doing my best to forget the hilarious He-Man press tour while reviewing this.)  i will say i sympathise with her character especially with Suzanne & Renee

I absolutely love Marisa Tomei in this. so overdramatic very comedic and steal every scenes she's in

Rachel Matthews & Fola Evans-Akingbola play Suzette & Renee to the point you either hope Karma comes around or Claire shuts them down with immediate prejudice.

It's nice to see Archie Renaux be attracted to something other then Xenomorphs, but he has that charm that makes the ladies go "Helloooo"

Lena Olin is the star of the show, she is the life of the movie. its nice cause when i usually see her her character is killing someone so nice change.

It was nice to see Anthony Head give how he recently bless RIP Giles

there is some great comedy in it, made me laugh

the flirting is great made me smile a point everyone misses the point of in the genre.

the whole "woman has a job, tries to impress doing the job, meets a hunky guy, falls for hunky guy uses him for whatever the reason is, he feels betrayed & leaves. time goes by near the end they reconcile & fall in love" sound familiar.

It does feel like another version of Devil Wears Prada only Marisa Tomei is no Meryl Streep

i know this whole movie relies on lying but there comes a point where it needs to ease up or for the relationships sake there needs to be a cut off point but that hole just gets bigger.

and that is the problem, camila Mendes is a actress you want to get behind but her character makes it impossible.

I've seen enough leads in rom-coms to know whether they are a good fit. Camila & Archie are no Benjamin Walker & Teresa Palmer.

All rom-coms are predictable this is no different

basically the whole movie is about lying to get what you want with no remorse & no consequences, but for me we have it enough in reality we dont need to be reminded about it in rom-coms.

i will say i know how difficult ballet dancing is just from the fact you have to stand on your tip toes for long periods of time so kudos to Maddie, Lana, iris, Millicent & Avantika for all the training they had to go through. as well as combine all the training they had to do. probably what Natalie

i like the choreography but its not perfect.

but Maddie is the standout as well as Uma Thurman having a redemption for her villain arc.

I like how not just at the start there is a problem between Princess & Bones but it goes from being a problem to having to put it aside while still having a problem.

Grace being high is probably the funniest part of the movie

i love the Ballet Fu more dramatic then Gun Fu but not as fun

the music is tense & suspenseful

whoever thought a fight scene with "The Nutcracker" would work so well

Suffering from intermittent explosive disorder. Lindy Lewis (Kate Beckinsale) Who has a sort of cure in a shock vest to her condition but isnt as good as she wishes. (ok i see why.) so she has a date with Justin (Jai Courtney) unfortunately he passes soon after & Lindy decides to investigate his murder herself.

Kate Beckinsale absolutely nails this role & has a certain likeability to her. As a guy who deals with something he can control i can sympathise.

i do love the thought mechanism of what is going through her head when the limit is reached. cant lie had a few of them myself.

Miranda Cosgrove is like a big shining beacon of happiness that smiles so which makes her perfect for a movie like this. everyone wants to like someone they can get behind. you can get behind Miranda in anything.

Pierson Fode definitely answers the questions that some people have on their minds. do you want a cowboy?

But Pierson & Miranda definitely have chemistry.

some of the dialogue is god awful

Some of the chat up lines are so bad even the Ogs wouldnt use them. Well Akila or Alan might.

its a movie for the hopeless romantics and the reality show fans (lets face it there are millions.) and is a guilty pleasure. But you watch it just for Miranda thats it.

plot

It follows Zoe Hull (Isabel May) who's relationship with her dad (Thomas Jane) well isnt the greatest cause of her mum (Radha Mitchell) passing away so she hates everyone & everything. At school after a van crashes into the school cafeteria. it becomes a life or death situation which Zoe isnt fazed by cause her dad is a hunter & has been training her in survival and hunting.

 

pros

Isabel May greatly plays an angry teen dealing with death of the most important thing in her life and then facing death in the eye. she leads the movie brilliantly. Probably the reason why she was selected to play Tatum Evans in Scream 7.

i like Radha Mitchell in this, being giving Zoe advice while guiding her through the life and death situation she finds her in.

Thomas Jane not in much but he still brings what i love him for to the table ok minus the punisher part.

There is always something happening within a few minutes of the last something happening so boredom is not at the forefront

story is good

it keeps you gripped throughout

it's low budget but everything is done not brilliantly but alot better then some movie

for some the plot is too close to home so understandable for that reason

i doubt 4 incendiary devices being let off is worthy of all the attention of the emergency services which 1 of the many plotholes & severe illogical moves in this movie.

film has a history of always having a big number of bad guys die hard had i think over 7 why is there only 4 here.

not much in terms of character development only Zoe does as she is dealing with trauma

All the villains except Anna are laughable. Tristan is a piss poor attempt at Heath Ledgers Joker, Kip looks like a very less scary Andre the giant & Chris is literally a stormtrooper mixed with Karl from Die Hard. (cant shoot for shit & doesnt stick to the plan) so you have 3 villains

critics have pissed on it because every movie has to have a message or a narrative. why? this is why i can be trusted and they cant.

 

verdict

Its one of those movie that shouldnt have the bad reputation it has so ignore the ignorant listen to the wiser critic. watch it whereever you can. it's worth it.

Plot

In the year 2050, Mickey (Robert Pattinson) and his friend Timo (Steven Yeun) join a colony ship heading to the frozen planet Niflheim. While Timo becomes a pilot, Mickey signs up as an "Expendable" — a worker assigned the jobs nobody else wants to do.

Whether it's dangerous scientific experiments, exposure to deadly environments, or other missions with little chance of survival, Mickey's role is simple: die if necessary. Every time he does, a new clone is printed with his memories restored.

Four years into the mission, Mickey 17 survives an incident where he was presumed dead. Unfortunately for him, Mickey 18 has already been printed.

Pros

• Robert Pattinson's narration is excellent and helps carry the story through its many twists and turns.

• Pattinson shines in the dual-role performance. The interactions between Mickey 17 and Mickey 18 are easily the film's biggest strength.

• Life aboard the colony ship is fascinating. Everyone has strict rules about what they can and can't do, making the social dynamics engaging. Naturally, someone eventually breaks one of those rules.

• I liked that even after humanity leaves Earth, Earth's problems still find a way to follow them.

• The production design is fantastic. The ship, technology, and frozen world all feel believable and lived-in.

• The "Expendable" concept is genuinely fascinating. It raises interesting questions about how society might treat a real-life human canary if one existed.

• A box office failure doesn't automatically make a film bad. This movie deserves more credit than its financial performance suggests.

Cons

• Bong Joon-ho's football fandom is obvious. Mickey 17 appears to be named after Kevin De Bruyne's squad number, security agent Kai resembles a tribute to Kai Havertz, and Timo appears inspired by Timo Werner. Tributes are fine, but changing character names and even the title from the original source material feels unnecessary.

• Mark Ruffalo's character never worked for me as a villain. Eventually he became less threatening and more like an annoying spot that keeps growing and won't go away.

• Toni Collette's character isn't far behind in that regard.

• I expected a deeper exploration of cloning, its advantages, disadvantages, and moral dilemmas. The film starts there but seems to lose focus.

• I haven't seen Parasite, but based on its reputation I expected something with stronger themes and emotional resonance.

• The pacing feels inconsistent. Like many modern films, it often swings between too much happening and not enough happening. I wanted something more balanced.

• Some directors become victims of their own success. When you've made a masterpiece, audiences expect every future film to reach that same level. James Cameron and Quentin Tarantino face this issue too. This is a good film, but not a brilliant one in the way Parasite is often described.

• At times the film feels more interested in satirising certain political leaders than exploring its strongest science-fiction ideas. One inspiration is particularly obvious from appearance alone.

• The central premise reminded me of Star Trek: The Original Series episode "The Enemy Within" — the idea of two versions of the same person forced to coexist.

Verdict

A box office failure does not automatically mean a movie is a failure.

Mickey 17 has plenty of flaws, misses opportunities to explore some of its most interesting ideas, and occasionally struggles with pacing and satire. However, Robert Pattinson's performance, the world-building, and the Expendable concept make it a thoroughly worthwhile watch.

It may not reach the heights many expected from Bong Joon-ho after Parasite, but it's still a good movie.

Nick (Michele Morrone) has a wife who is a heart condition and his 2 young kids. he finds himself overwhelmed so he purchases a gynoid or a female android who is named Alice (Megan Fox) by his daughter. Although she is helpful this is an android that develops emotions. so what do you think is gonna happen?

 

pros

Well Megan Fox is the breakout she is absolutely brilliant so brilliant infact i dont think if youd have asked me who would be a good choice i wouldnt have said Megan. But bravo Megan bravo and thats before we get to the Jennifer's Body part of Alice.

never seen Michele Morrone in a movie before, i wasnt expecting anything as far as performance goes (i dont judge until ive seen them for the first time.) But i can see why he's held in high regard.

it does raise the question of how much will Ai & androids take over in the future.

as someone who has lost many to cancer i sympathise with Nick's plight

I do love the psychological warfare Alice puts on even if it is 1 sided.

it's tense as hell which you can tell thanks to Michele's performance

right im not gonna criticise the casting of Megan cause im not however if youre getting an android to help you out why would you pick the most beautiful one there? isnt that the same as picking the hottest nanny you can find?

is this different from something like an I Robot or is it exactly the same but with a few differences?

i understand that Alice's reset started something but why is she going straight for the male jugular. (dont question it you'll know when you see it)

there is many plot holes like if they were so eager to fire human workers why were the androids locked away at night instead of going the Kinks route of all day and all of the night? you know things like that.

it is abit slow at times with uneven pacing

they had a good idea for a sequel but they shouldnt do one & they probably wont.

the ending was too much the ending of any of the first 3 terminators.

it's AI meets the Hand that rocks the cradle. but i wouldnt give up either. but its just worth watching for Megan Fox alone
